LCA names SAFE Awards honorees

The Louisiana Chemical Association has named the recipients of its Best in Louisiana SAFE Awards that are given to chemical plants that exhibit employee and process safety, as well as environmental stewardship.

SAFE stands for “Serious About Fostering Excellence,” and this is the 24th year the program quantified safety practices and results at LCA member companies.

The Class 4 winner of the Safe Award, for entities with more than 400 employees, is ExxonMobil Chemical Company’s Baton Rouge Chemical Plant.

Shintech Louisiana won the award in the Class 3 division, which comprises facilities with between 201 and 400 employees.

Lyondellbasell Lake Charles Polymers, which celebrated its 60th year of operation in October, won the Class 2 SAFE Award, which is designated for facilities with between 101 and 200 employees.

The Class 1 winner, with fewer than 100 employees, is Lonza in Lake Charles.

SAFE Awards are be earned by showing multiyear excellence evaluated against the strictest possible industry standards for employee and environmental safety, according to the organization.

The four facilities earning most improved awards in environmental and safety performance were Noranda Alumina in Gramercy, Formosa Plastics & Chemicals in Baton Rouge, Americas Styrenics Chemical Company in St. James Parish and Rain CII Carbon Lake Charles Calcining Plant.
