The St. Bernard District Attorney last week added the St. Bernard Port Authority as a defendant in its current lawsuit against Port NOLA, reports Fox 8 News. The suit is attempting to block development of the new Louisiana International Terminal.
The Port of New Orleans recently announced $226 million in a federal grant to assist in the construction of the proposed container ship terminal, but the future of the terminal is in limbo as litigation plays out.
The suit acknowledges that the parish port signed a deal with Port NOLA and landowners in Violet to transfer property to Port NOLA, but asks the court to nullify the sale and to honor legislation from 1992 where St. Bernard was given jurisdiction over the land, water, and cargo within parish lines.
