Louisiana is guaranteed more than $7 billion from the bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that won final passage during a weekend vote in the U.S. House, and will be eligible for billions more in allocations from the legislation, reports The Lafayette Daily Advertiser.
Republican Louisiana U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, a lead author on the bill, called its passage “a major victory for Louisiana and our nation. This infrastructure package will rebuild our roads and bridges, increase access to high-speed internet, strengthen our electric grid, add levee protection and improve flood resiliency.”
But despite his enthusiasm, Louisiana’s lone Democrat in the House, Congressman Troy Carter of New Orleans, was the only member of the state delegation to vote for the bill. Louisiana’s House Republicans said the bill didn’t dedicate enough money to traditional infrastructure like roads and bridges and that Louisiana didn’t get its fair share of the money allocated.
