Électricité de France, S.A. has agreed to purchase 1 million tons per year from the Venture Global Plaquemines LNG export facility for the next two decades.
Venture Global LNG announced the 20-year sales and purchase agreement with the largely government-owned French utility company last week.
Under the terms of the agreement, EDF will purchase LNG on a free on board basis for a 20-year term starting from the commercial operation date of the Venture Global Plaquemines LNG export facility.
The 20 million tons per year Venture Global Plaquemines LNG facility south of New Orleans on the Mississippi River is expected to begin construction this year. The project has received its final authorizations from both the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Department of Energy.
The company is also developing the Venture Global Delta LNG facility—also capable of producing 20 million tons per year—adjacent to Plaquemines. The 10 million tons per year Venture Global Calcasieu Pass facility is under construction at the intersection of the Calcasieu Ship Channel and the Gulf of Mexico.
