As the oil industry returns in Lafayette, Moncla Energy Company has revived a training tool that hasn’t been used since 2007.
As KLFY reports, the company has dug out its training rig—which it says is the only one in southwest Louisiana—and resurrected its U of Krewe safety training. The 40-hour training program just graduated its first safety class in 14 years.
The television station notes that the energy sector lost much of its workforce over the past year through COVID and when the president instituted a temporary ban on new oil and gas leases.
“The industry is back, and our biggest problem now is hiring people,” Moncla’s Chief Financial Officer Wayne Elmore tells KLFY. “We only had two rigs working in December, so since that time we have put 17 rigs to work, and we will have 30 rigs working in the next two months.”
