A partnership between Fletcher Technical Community College and Lafourche Parish schools officially launched its Marine Diesel Engine Technician Program during a March 12 ribbon-cutting ceremony in Lockport. The program allows high school students to enroll in Fletcher’s marine diesel program, reports Houma Today.
During the program, students will learn to diagnose, service and repair marine diesel engines. Some students are taught to overhaul engines, repair marine transmissions and hydraulic systems, welding and rigging. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs for diesel mechanics is expected to grow by 9% before 2026. One out of every five jobs in Louisiana are tied to either the maritime or water economy. See the full story at Houma Today.
