Construction has begun on the new LNG Center for Excellence, commemorated by a groundbreaking ceremony last week on the campus of McNeese State University, reports KPLC News.
Leadership from McNeese State University, elected officials, industry representatives and project contractors participated in the event. A $2.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce is helping fund the work, making it the first such facility in the country.
“This center is a really a transformational opportunity for the community to take advantage of a globally significant industry that has been growing in our backyard,” says Jason French, the facility’s executive director.
Construction is expected to take about 14 months. Officials hope students will be using the center by fall 2025. Read more.
